Firstly the hole numbering properties window will appear.
If you only want to use numbers, leave the "Prefix" empty.
Press OK button to start renumbering.
Left-click on the canvas to start the line.
Subsequent left-clicking will add to the line.
The line will snap to the holes, when it does it will renumber those holes. The snapping sensitivity can be changed in user preferences->graphic defaults.
Double-click to end the line.
If you need to change the starting number or prefix (to identify a new row), press the Renumber Holes button again or the shortcut CTRL-R .
